We are committed to providing care for the most vulnerable people – while bearing witness to the obstacles in accessing healthcare – and to achieving lasting improvements in health policy for all.
These are Médecins du Monde’s priority actions that guide our choice of programs. We analyze the social context, legal situation, and difficulties encountered by vulnerable people in order to plan our projects.
These missions last around three weeks. They are financed by Médecins du Monde’s own funds and led by a program coordinator and medical adviser.
At this stage, the project conditions are established, based on hypothetical funding scenarios for the various program components. It is also at this stage that we choose the institutional partners and civil society organizations with which we will work.
This marks the start of activities. This phase lasts 6 to 12 months depending on the bureaucratic difficulties encountered. The program coordination team establishes itself in the country where the project will take place. It procures equipment and hires staff.
Médecins du Monde’s development programs run for 3 to 5 years on average. In addition to our healthcare, training, awareness-raising, and advocacy activities, we also undertake results monitoring and continue fundraising efforts.
At the end of the program and depending on the situation, Médecins du Monde extends the activities to other regions or hands them over to local health authorities and program partners. A capitalization study is carried out to provide insights on lessons learned during the program to improve the effectiveness of our future actions.
