  • Violence prevention and care for victims

Violence: a public health emergency

Violence is a major public health concern, with profound health, social, economic, and cultural impacts. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it takes three main forms:

  • Interpersonal: violence between individuals (violence that occurs within the family, between intimate partners, etc.).
  • Self-inflicted: such as suicide or self-harm
  • Collective: encompassing social, political, and economic violence

These acts can be physical, sexual, psychological, or take the form of deprivation and neglect. Their complexity and frequency require a comprehensive and appropriate response.

Advocating for a feminist approach to health

In an international context where people’s rights to control their own bodies are being challenged, Médecins du Monde is more committed than ever, strategically, institutionally, and operationally, both in Switzerland and internationally, to promoting feminist health.

Overcoming the obstacles that hinder progress in terms of equity is essential to ensuring equal access to health for all.
