Discover our humanitarian programs in Africa

Violent armed conflicts have caused instability in several African countries. These situations deeply destabilize local healthcare systems, which are already weakened and largely inaccessible.

Other major public health issues in Africa include the high prevalence of infectious diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis, and the havoc wreaked by gender-based violence and poor access to sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Local resources alone are unable to meet the vital healthcare needs that stem from these emergency situations and humanitarian crises in Africa. Médecins du Monde supports capacity-building in local communities to empower them sustainably.

Our work and aid in Africa

Our NGO supports local partners through various programmes in Africa to restore access to primary healthcare services and maintain continuity of care.

In support of local healthcare structures, Médecins du Monde runs projects in Africa that aim to implement long-term measures through prevention, screening and training for national healthcare personnel.

Our work is structured around several areas of intervention, including sexual and reproductive health, reducing the risks associated with drug use, and providing care to displaced populations, victims of violence and people who are unable to access healthcare services.
